LocAle - what's that about then?
There is a lot of growing interest in locally produced foods - either to be taken home and cooked, or enjoyed in a good restaurant, bar or pub. There are now no fewer than 27 real ale breweries within the Greater Manchester Region, so it's worth highlighting the many local beers, isn't it? CAMRA North Manchester has helped 9 good pubs in the Northern Quarter of Manchester, Central Salford and Worsley to team up with these many local breweries for the whole month of November under the banner of LocALE. If you see a LocAle 'annex' to the beer badge on a handpump, then you know it is a local beer. It is as simple as that! Also, all these selected pubs will display 'LocAle' posters and window stickers. If you haven't tried a local beer from a local brewery in any of these pubs then anytime in November is a good time to start!
The Pubs:
The Angel,
Angel Street, Manchester; Bar Fringe,
Swan Street, Manchester; Bridgewater Hotel,
Barton Road, Worsley; the Crescent, on
The Crescent, Salford; the Crown & Kettle,
Oldham Road, Manchester; the Kings Arms,
Bloom Street, Salford; the Marble Arch,
Rochdale Road, Manchester; the New Oxford,
Bexley Square, Salford; and the Smithfield Bar & Hotel,
Swan Street, Manchester.
The Breweries deemed by CAMRA North Manchester to produce 'LocAle' are:
Three Rivers, Allgates, Bank Top, Bazens', Boggart Hole Clough, Bollington Brewery, Cellar Rat, Dane Town, Greenfield, Joseph Holt, Hyde's, Hornbeam, Dunham Massey, Green Mill, J W Lees, Leyden, Marble, Mayflower, Millstone, Outstanding, Phoenix, Pictish, Prospect, Robinsons, Saddleworth, Shedded and Shaws. These are all Greater Manchester real ale breweries. Only these breweries are featured in our local 'LocAle' promotion.
But the LocAle campaign isn't confined to Greater Manchester. If you're travelling around Britain, look out for the LocAle sign promoting good local beer in good local pubs nationwide!
