Apart from regular branch meetings and socials, we also organise other ways of having fun and drinking beer. Our events have included pub crawls, visits to breweries, Treasure Hunts (actually that's just a pub crawl by another name), working at or visiting beer festivals, surveying pubs for the Good Beer Guide, a bowling match, a Beer and Curry night, CAMrambles (yes, another name for a pub crawl) and even a lecture on Old Pubs and Taverns of Salford (a sort of virtual pub crawl really).
Non-members are welcome at most of our events and meetings. Come along, enjoy a few drinks with us, and tell us what you think of the pubs in your part of the world! But get in touch with us first, so we'll know who to look out for. (Contrary to popular opinion, it's not that easy to spot CAMRA members in a pub, although it's fair to say we're unlikely to be the ones drinking Miller Lite from the bottle.)
For up-to-date details and other information (like which
bus to catch), just send us an e-mail.

Please note that our branch business meetings are usually held at either
the New Oxford,
Bexley Square in Salford, or
the Unicorn (upstairs room) on
Church Street, Manchester.

The 17th Annual Independents' Day Treasure Hunt - starting this year at the Crown & Kettle on Great Ancoats Street, Manchester, M4 5FE.
Doors open at 11 a.m. Teams can start at any time up to 12.30 p.m. You'll need to return to the same pub for marking and food! by 7.30 p.m.
Teams can be made up of 2 to 5 people, and the entry fee is just one pound (£1) per person.
All enquiries to this year's organisers, who write:
If you've done this before, you know what to expect. If not - the annual Independents' Day Treasure Hunt combines a pub crawl with a pub quiz, and offers the chance to tour interesting pubs around central Manchester and prove how clever (or warped) you are while doing so.
Your team* will answer a short quiz giving you the names of the pubs to be visited during the day. You then tour these pubs, enjoying beers from local and other independent breweries, while answering questions in each pub. Return to the starting point by early evening for food and to find out who's won. The winners receive beer tokens and the ceremonial shield, and hopefully will take on the challenge of setting the 2010 Treasure Hunt.
Whether or not you know Manchester's pubs, this is a great opportunity to visit some you might not have found on your own.
Hopefully we'll see you on the 4th.
Mike, Dee, JJ, Neil and Julie (2009 Treasure Hunt setters)
* and if it's just you, turn up anyway - there's always a team that could use another brain!
If you're still wondering how a real ale treasure hunt works, have a look at this Survival Guide, plus one we did earlier.

Some of the pubs we visit can be difficult to find, so the street names include a link to the very wonderful
Streetmap.co.uk.
You can also use the
North West Journey Planner for
bus,
train and
tram times. The
GMPTE site also has a
Bus Timetable Library where you can download individual route timetables.
And while you're on the Internet, you can even check if your train is on time. The
National Rail website gives details of any problems on the national network.
